Floral Folding Card

I needed a card for a very good friend recently - she loves flowers so it was a no brainer to put this 3D Flower Box that folds flat together to give her when we went out to lunch.  

I actually dug out my stamps to do this one.  The box was a rectangle I designed and cut on my Silhouette Cameo.....the edges are part of the rectangle and I cut a separate long rectangle to go over them on the outside for reinforcement. The paper used was kraft card stock -  I stamped each portion with an Our Daily Bread Designs wood stamp.  The blue flowers are stamped with an obscure stamp I found in my drawer in Stampin Ups Bliss Blue (its from way back) on some Bliss Blue paper I still had in my stash.  I fussy cut around them as I was too lazy to play with my Pix Scan mat on my SIL. The yellow flowers and leaves are a simple cut file from Lori Whitlock.  

I had a lot to live up to on her card this year as last year for her 60th Birthday I made the one below - She has several bird feeders in her back yard and enjoys feeding them and watching them from her kitchen.  It is great fun making cards for her as she truly appreciates them.

With Sympathy

     Yes, I needed a Sympathy card for a co-worker.  Her father passed away very unexpectedly the other night.  It was with sadness that I sat to create this for her.  While looking for inspiration I found several card styles that appealed to me.....most cards of this nature seemed to be fairly simple.  There was one card I came across that had used the Lords Prayer in the background - then I looked through some of my old creations and some ideas began to form.  Like most cards, this ended up a little different from how it was intended to look, and that is a good thing - I liked my original ideas, but this turned out even better.
    Not owning a stamp with the words to the prayer I computer generated them, repeating them about nine or ten times.  After choosing a paper color I then coordinated the color of the ink for the words to the paper. Once they printed out I used my circle Spellbinder die to cut out the image and a background layer.  Then I inked up my Penny Black floral stamp with some Brilliance Pearlescent Jade and stamped it over the words of the prayer, Cutting off a small side of the circles I placed them on my card and created a floral design on the opposite side to balance the card with some Prima flowers, and foliage with my Martha Stewart punch, and Cheery Lynn die.  To finish this off I used some ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon and a metal die Cross from Momenta.

  The card dimensions are 5.5 by 5.5 and with the flowers would not fit into a normal envelope, so I made a small box to place it in.  There is a belly band with a fancy punched edge, with another Martha Stewart Punch, and matching ribbon from the card to go around the box, topped with a frame stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs with their matching die.  (Need to place her name on this)
     It is a very peaceful looking card - inside I computer generated the sentiment: Although its difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.  You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Still Waters

     Got my new stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs - This scene so appealed to me when it was released.    I am always looking for stamps that can be used for masculine cards and that go well with scripture, this fit the bill for me.
     This week I decided to join in on the Sketch Challenge at Splitcoaststampers and it seemed the perfect challenge to use my new stamp with, and will also work with the challenge over at Our Daily Bread Designs this week for wood or stone.  I stamped the background for the look of wood, then I stamped and embossed my image on a rectangular piece of kraft card stock.  It is embossed because I then took some bleach and washed it over the water to add a little different tone to the monochromatic look.  Both of the rectangles were mounted on black card stock and laid out per the sketch.  A little twine with an anchor to finish it off - I couldn't find the compass charm I KNOW I have, arghhh, need to do some cleaning in this room!!!  All in all a nice looking card to add to my stash, one that will not be there long before it is sent out.

     Playing around with some background paper from an old hymnal and made this little card.  Please don't start thinking of me as the 'crazy bird' lady since this is my second bird post in a row - as they couldn't be more different.  This little chickadee is by Our Daily Bread Designs, and cut out using their matching die as well.  He is sitting on a hymn titled "Let Him In" and is colored with my Copics, then mounted on two circles cut with my Spellbinders circle dies.  The background is some kraft paper run through a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder finished off with some ribbon and a little red embellishment.  I will be placing this in the challenge over at Our Daily Bread Designs since I used one of their stamps you can see details here if you wish to join in.

By His Wounds

     During Lent a group of musicians and worship leaders from all across the South have posted a daily devotional on You-Tube - I have been following along daily.  They have actually been using material and readings from the Book of Common Prayer - which has been interesting as some have never used this book before and their insights into the scripture has been a breath of fresh air.  Just a click of my mouse and I can have as much time to mediate and pray during the devo as I need.  How exciting this week is as we travel through Holy Week into Easter......As I have said before, this season begins much earlier for me, at Christmastime.....you can't have the cross without the creche.  I am humbled by the sacrifice Jesus made on my behalf. It is with joy that I look forward to celebrating His resurrection this Sunday.

     I have had a great time making some explosion boxes for Easter and today I worked on a 'pop-up' card. Once again I went to my 'go to' stamp from Flourishes....this is the perfect size cross, and the Easter Lilies that adorn it are just beautiful.  I stamped, colored and then cut the cross out....I also stamped a second cross that I then cut the center Lily from and colored.  Using some scrapbook adhesives I popped this up on the cross.

     Using my circle dies (offset) I cut a piece of silver to place behind my image.  With my Cheery Lynn dies I cut some greenery to place around my cross.  An Easter sentiment was placed inside of my Elegant Oval Frames from Our Daily Bread Designs and cut with their matching Spellbinders die.  A little bling, because this is a festive and awesome day I am celebrating, and the inside of the card is complete.
     For the outside I used a larger Elegant Oval Frame from Our Daily Bread Designs with a sentiment from their 'He Will Rise' set.  I cut out and colored a lily for the corner of the die.  Keeping the cross in mind I ran the  front panel of my card through my Grand Calibur with their M-Bossabilities wood die.
     Time to be getting some of these in the mail - Easter will be here before I know it.

A little birdie told me...

     There is something very refreshing about black and white cards.......they always seem so fresh and crisp to me.  When I saw the challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs this week was for black, white or cream I couldn't help but get one of their stamps out and play.  I do have to confess that after taking this picture I decided to color the little berries red, then used a little crystal effects over them.  I liked the little pop of red after doing that.....but since the picture was taken I decided to go with it as is - you'll have to use your imagination.
     I used some ribbon on the bottom for this one, I like this design so I am planning to make a set as a gift and will use a lovely Thank You sentiment on the bottom. This is a great stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs and I love that it has a  matching die make - this makes  it soooo easy to cut it out and pop it up. Has me thinking spring!!   Also, in real life the rhinestones on the lattice really make this card look lovely.

Easter Explosion

     Where do I start.  Ever since I saw the "Explosion Box" made by Kittie C on Splitcoast Stampers I have been itching to make one.  I finally cleaned up my stamp area and sat down to play the other day.  THIS is not the first box I created.....that will be posted a little later so not to ruin a surprise for a friend.  After making the first box there were a gazillion ideas going through my mind.......something special for Easter just kept tugging at my heart....a box that holds a special gift reminds me of the great gift of Christ's birth at Christmas that culminates in the greatest gift of all when He dies on the cross so that I might live.
      While I wanted to use the acetate and have it look like there were things in the air as the box was opened, I just couldn't seem to grasp an idea for it - instead this is what I created!!  I used three different stamp sets.  The cross with a flower cut out and popped up on it is from Flourishes. From the get go I wanted a cross in the center and this one is the perfect size and can be cut out easily.  The 'Alleluia' sentiment is Stampendous, and the perfect scripture quotes, as well as the frame and matching dies used around the sentiments are from Our Daily Bread Designs.
     I started by taking a 12 x 12 sheet of cardstock and scoring it at 4 inches on each side, then I cut out the corner pieces for a + shape.  I got a little carried away on the inside layers, running one through my Grand Calibur with the Spellbinders M-Bossabilities to create a wood look, and backing it with a darker purple cardstock.

     For the outside I created my own patterned paper using the flower stamp from Flourishes.  I topped the box with a small bow made with my NEW Becca's Bow Maker I recently purchased from Our Daily Bread Designs (I think I am going to enjoy using this on many future projects).

     The focal point in the center was the most fun.  I colored my cross and flowers in with my Copics and then cut it out.  I took some mirrored silver cardstock and took two of my circle dies, placing them so they cut slightly larger to the top and ran them through my GC. I cut two of these so I could sandwich a piece of vellum between them and form a frame - the cross was too messy looking from the back and needed to be hidden.  Then I put some pop ups on the back of my cross and placed it on the vellum.  For the base I took a small styrofoam ball and cut it in half....I used a knife to make an indentation across the top to place my frame and cross in.  Some leaves cut from my Cheery Lynn die and a few flowers from my Martha Stewart punch were added to the top of some moss I glued over the styrofoam....I also added a few dollops of glue and put a little touch of Flower Soft on my moss.
     This project was just toooo much fun - I am hooked just wait until you see the other box and the one I am planning next....lets just say 'Yee Haw' for that one.  !

Cardinals in Winter

     Every year I make ornaments as gifts for various family members and friends.  Being a bit picky about how they are colored and show up in the glass ornament keeps me busy for months in advance measuring and mentally coloring stamps I see while shopping.  Some are great for coloring, but won't fit.  Others are perfect, but digital :( - some just won't color up well with the Sharpie Paint Pens....so I was REALLY excited when Our Daily Bread came out with their recent release and had several perfect images to choose from.  Having lived in St. Louis for 17 years I am a big Cardinals Baseball fan, and the birds themselves are always colorful and fun to watch in the yard, so it was a simple choice for me to choose this stamp.
     On acetate I stamped the image in Staz-on Black ink, then I  turned it over and colored  the images with my Sharpie paint pens......I am going to work later this week on some shading and giving the birds a little more depth, but I think they look great perched on these pine branches with some snow around them (I am also going to play with adding some snow to the pine cones).

     I turned my layout sideways, and instead of ribbon I chose to do flowers in its place.  I was just in a pink mood when I was laying this out. my flowers are handmade, they are easy and fun to make and I have a picture tutorial you can view here.  Stretched the take a little, but it is exactly what I had in mind when I started so I am happy. and 'hey' its all about me isn't it - LOL!! My sentiment is from the Quote Collection 2.   Have as much fun as I did playing.  See I told you I wouldn't use the sea this week, it was tempting.

Now on to my take for this challenge:

     I like making step cards - when I started playing with this image and sentiment from The Mighty Sea I wasn't sure what I was going to do but the colors and layout just seemed to come together.  The little shells are a $1.00 stamp I found at JoAnn's. (Hmmm, are you sensing a theme here with my $1.00 or less purchases - maybe I should change my blog name to the 'Frugal Stamper" LOL!! )  After stamping and coloring them with my Copic markers, I cut them out and arranged them around the card

     I promise next week to leave the beach behind as this is the second time I have used a beach scene.....can you tell its summer..... I find the ocean a peaceful and wonderful place to visit  -  whenever I stand at the edge of the beach with the water lapping up on the shore, tickling my toes, I truly feel the magnificence of God and all that He has created.

Now on to my take for this challenge:

This challenge made me stretch myself as torn and distressed are not my typical look or style.  While shopping recently I came across this sweet cross and purchased it for a whole penny, yes - you read that correctly, a whole penny.......it was too good of a deal to pass up!  I sponged some distress ink over it and then dabbed it with some brown Color Box ink.  With my Spellbinder Fluer De Lis Die I cut a frame.  Then I stamped one of my favorite sentiments from the set  "Pray" from the "Full of Grace" collection, onto the same design paper I used for the base.  I roughed up the edges of the base as well as the piece holding the sentiment and rubbed some ink around those edges.  A rhinestone in the center of my cross and the corners of my die completed the look.  On the back of the envelope, for this card, I stamped the Grunge Cross from the "Never Give Up" set.  Thanks for stopping by.

Angelic

   
     Recently I was inspired by a card I saw created by Marianne' Papirverden with this fold, and wanted to try my hand at it.  I have figured out a few things doing this, one being you do not want to use a really heavy cardstock for the base of the card, it makes this really thick to fold....and if I do another (which I most likely will) I will probably do it more like hers and round the outside panels.  I am also considering using a brad on the next one so that the top swings up to hold a message as well as for a signature, as it is now you would have to write a note and sign the back of this.  In spite of what I learned I do like this, I am especially fond of the DP, a very feminine look.  You can find Marianne's blog by clicking above if you want to see her card, it is quite lovely.

Now on to my take for this challenge:

     There are many places I like to shop for craft supplies. Recently at Michael's I found these fabulous $1.00 frames and bought a 'bunch' in different shapes and sizes.  This design has been in my head since I first saw this oval.  I covered the frame with a paper that has an old wood look. The image and sentiment are from Our Daily Bread Design "Light of the World" set.  It was colored with my Copic's and sponged in Stampin' Up Bliss Blue around the edges.  It just seemed to call out for some shells, which also happened to be found at the same store as the frame.

Not a card....

     You have to love those $1.00 frames that Michael's sells......at least I do.  The overall dimension of this frame is 5 x 5, the inside measures 3.25 x 3.25.
     Using my largest Fleur De Lis Square Nestie with some black linen cardstock I ran this through my Grand Calibur.  Then I took the cardboard piece that was in the frame and laid it on top of the piece I ran through my machine and traced the square inside of it....I then used my Fiskars cutter to cut around my marks (if you have a square die you could probably use it instead).  In the meantime I cut a piece of 5 inch by 5 inch DP from K & C (Ancestry.com design) and trimmed the inside the same way, using the cardboard inset that was in the frame.  I glued the DP to the front of the frame that I had previously painted with some acrylic paint in the color Caramel Candy.  Then I ran my die cut through my Krylon machine and placed it over the DP.  Using my Cheery Lynn die I made a few leaves and placed them in the corner of the frame, then I added a few of my homemade flowers I had from a previous project.  On a recent trip to the craft store I found some cute Metal embellishments in a butterfly design that I used as well.
     On a piece of good CS I used my Stampin' Up More Mustard Ink and stamped the Branch and Butterfly stamp from the Our Daily Bread Designs Faith set  (it was too strong to stamp directly on my piece, so after inking I stamped it once on scrap paper and then onto the CS).  I then used an Impression Obsession stamp for the sentiment.
     This was so fun and I have so many ideas about ways to use this frame, thinking Christmas, small group gifts, family.......a pretty endless list of ideas and styles are rolling through my mind.

Red, White and Blue

     It may not be the Fourth of July yet, but this past week was Flag Day (I always remember this day because it is also my DH birthday).  Recently I have been playing with some small frames I purchased at Michael's.  The first few I covered with paper and I really liked them, but I wanted to try my hand at painting and stamping one.
     I covered this small frame with some Red Apple acrylic paint, then I took the Wood Background stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs and inked it up with some brown ink.  The stamp is not quite wide enough to cover the entire frame so I had to stamp it once, then eyeball it and stamp it a second time.  I think it turned out very nicely and I have more ideas to play with this same look and maybe aging it a little.
     Wanting to enter this in the challenge over at Really Reasonable Ribbon I then took some cute little 'red, white and blue' ribbon and with my score tape layered it across the bottom.  After looking through tons of images and ideas for the center I settled on a computer generated sentiment that I stamped over with a Northwoods Fireworks stamp, and then jazzed it all up with the large blue stars around it.
     I will be entering this in the Our Daily Bread Designs challenge for summer in the USA, I think fireworks are a big part of the summer celebrations....I am very patriotic, one of those people who cries when they play the National Anthem.....
     Be prepared to see a few more things with these frames I bought 24 of them when I was in the store, I'm thinking Christmas gifts for some Bible Study friends and family!!!

    The challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs was to create a card using this photo as an inspiration.

     First you need to know that my DH and I had talked about going to a movie, but we were soooo relaxed  and enjoying the quiet time at home that we changed our minds.  With that in mind I was checking out the ODBD blog and saw this photo.......I was drawn to picture 4 BECAUSE of the caramel corn, yes, I had popcorn on the mind.  There is no way I can go to a show and not have a small bag of popcorn, since we hadn't gone to the show I was kind of missing getting my popcorn fix. As soon as I saw this picture my mind focused on the caramel corn......SO, the colors I chose were in the burgundy family and of course a lovely caramelly orange color, Mmmmmm! 

     I had a lot of fun making this card.  First I ran my DP through the Grand Calibur with an EF....then I took my Color Box gold and rubbed it all over the paper giving a nice highlight to the embossed pattern.  After stamping my sentiment (Our Daily Bread Designs) on a circle I layered this on another circle and then placed those on top of that lovely 'caramelly colored' paper cut with the Lacey Circle Die.  I punched this same paper with my Martha Stewart Hydranga punches and edged them in Red.  Before layering them together I spritzed them with some Gold Shimmer Mist and then added some Champagne colored beads to the center of each flower with a drop of Glossy Accents.  I used my Cheery Lynn die to cut some leaves from some other DP and layered everything on my card, having rounded the lower edges of the layers.  

     The colors on this card are so rich and the flowers turned out absolutely beautiful with the gold spritz.

White on White

     My stamps are in drawers with categories on the front,  If you know me it is no surprise that the Western and Christian stamps share equal space. My heart belongs to both of them when it comes to stamping, I am trying to branch out a little.....and why not, that means more stamps of other images to play with - and there can't be anything wrong with more stamps.
    The scripture I used from Our Daily Bread Designs is one of my favorite, and from their Customer Favorites released last August. When I think of a new creation I think a clean start or all white. With that thought in mind as I put this scripture to ink, it is no surprise the card is 'simply' white with lovely butterflies (and of course a few pearls, I do like pearls).  What a comforting scripture to know that when I know Christ and embrace Him in my life, I too become a new clean slate for Him to work through. The old me is gone and I am renewed by his gift on the cross and through His resurrection.

By His Wounds

      As I got some cards ready for Easter this was one of several I put together. For my background I used an Our Daily Bread Designs Stamp of three crosses, and repeatedly stamped across some kraft card stock in brown ink.  The sentiment, from the same Our Daily Bread Design set, He will Rise, is stamped on a coaster that I ran through my Grand Caliber with a Spellbinders die and then used some gold Krylon to ink the edges.  I cut several leaves from a Cheery Lynn die that I positioned in the corner, and then put a flower I made in the center of them  (a picture tutorial of how I make my flowers is posted on this blog).  The inside reads "Alleluia, He is Risen".
     I also used this sentiment on a cross I made that I purchased from Michael's. The cross was edged in gold so I used gold leaves below the sentiment.  Instead of cards I made a few versions of this cross and sent them to friends.

Hope is Pink!!!

     I have been asked to send more cards to the Church Book Store and thought they might like some supporting prayer for those with breast cancer.  When I was out and about I discovered the new Sizzix "Movers and Shapers L" die and thought it would be fun to make these cards using it.  The challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs asked us to use our favorite set - as I said in an earlier post, they are all my favorites as I use them, but I will admit to being a little partial to the butterflies and have used them many times over the year!!

     I made two cards (so far) and below is the second using the same Sizzix Die to make the card.

     All the stamps I used are from Our Daily Bread Designs.  The first card uses the set 'Butterfly Corner' with the matching Butterfly and die.  The sentiment inside is from the 'Praying for a Cure' set, which is also the sentiment on the front of the second card.

Flowers of Faith

     The challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs Blog is to use one of our favorite stamps from them.....Seriously??  My favorite stamp is whatever stamp I happen to be creating with at the moment.  Every time I create a card, for whatever reason, it is my favorite until I dig more paper, stamps, and ink out to play with.  For sure this stamp and paper were my favorite a few days ago..... 

     This card was created using a stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs - what really excited me about this card however, is that I found this envelope with a 6x6 piece of matching paper at a store going out of business for .18 whole cents.  Then I added some lovely patterned paper I had purchased with some ribbon that was going to the garbage from a display at where I use to work and 'voila' a card I love.  However, as I type this I am eyeing those pretty pink cards I made today with the 'Praying for a Cure' stamp and thinking they may just be my favorite......for sure until I stamp tomorrow :)
