As I perused Splitcoast Stampers last week this card from Kittie747 caught my eye.  Over the years I have followed (stalked) Kittie - her work is so detailed, creative and outstanding.  After seeing her card I had to dig out my new bunny dies and get to work.  The frame is my favorite Spellbinders Floral Die that I layered with pop up for dimension.  My greenery is from an old but well used Martha Stewart punch (I am however going to buy the new IO foliage die I recently discovered).....the little flowers are an ancient small hand punch that I have had for at least 10 years.   

These adorable little bunnies are Cottage Cutz dies that I ran thru my cutter using beige card stock then I used some Ranger Distress ink and a sponge to color around them.  I dug out my smallest circle hand punch and gave these cuties an eye - using a larger circle hand punch I cut a piece of brown paper and layered it under the first cut - a little extra work but I wanted them to be precise looking.   Compared to Kittie I kept this card pretty simple but I am pleased with the results and cant' wait to put it in the mail for Easter.

Vintage Valentine Pop Up

     

My inspiration for this card came from the original 1908 Valentine's card that was my grandmothers. Sacrilegious as it may sound I took the card apart and scanned it to use.  The truth is that while the card holds sentimental value to me I like knowing that is being re-purposed, so to speak, being used in a new card. Like the original card I made this one a pop up as well.  You can see below that the card folds down when you open it and it has an unusual shape with the front cover not going all the way to the top.  The original card inspired me to create the piece this way.  

While I enjoy the look of vintage cards I just couldn't see making this one all frilly, lace and glitter....I instead chose a harlequin print stationary in my stash and some Spellbinder dies to create my own look

Below is a copy of the original card -  I have post cards from several holidays that were my Grandmothers. As I handle them I am always touched that she had family that loved her so and amazed at how well these cards still look at over 100 years old.

Get Well

     This card is for a Bella, she has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (only a few short months after her cousin Bridger received a more severe and aggressive cancer diagnosis).  The Teapotters over at Splitcoast have challenged us to make Isabella some cards to cheer her up.  I am late getting to the Tea Party.....which is rather ironic as I knew of Isabella's diagnosis and need for cards two weeks ago and made this card.  I'm just way behind in getting it to the post office.  The Teapotters will probably be making princess cards, I made this before the challenge, but I personalized it so Isabella would feel special.  You can read about Isabella here.  This card will get to the post office in the next two days and I am continuing to keep Isabella, her family and her cousin Bridger in my prayers......these kids are too young to have to go through all these treatments, breaks my heart.  What troopers they are.

Lil Buckaroo..........

     A friend at Splitcoaststampers challenged a few of us to some Jammer Town fun this weekend using a 'Western Theme'.  I can't resist a western challenge so I put aside the pieces I have been designing on my Silhouette and took a break to make this card.  I got out my Little Buckaroo stamp from Sutter and a lovely background stamp by CC Rubber Stamps.  After stamping my buckaroo I masked him with to stamp over the image with the background stamp so he would look like he is standing in the field.  Colored him with my Copics and dug out some recently purchased 6x6 burlap that is paper backed.  Ran it through my Grand Calibur with a Spellbinders square die and then created a frame using to of the dies.  A simple but fun card.  I have been working hard designing my own cut files with my Silhouette and it was great fun to take a little time to make a card.  Thanks Greenie (aka Sue).

Happy Haunting

     Oh yes, it was a busy Monday in my little stamp castle......one might be a little confused looking around wondering whether it is Halloween or Christmas, but the stamps and paper were flying.  This little treasure was made using the Spellbinders Radiant Rectangles die .  I love creating cards that are in an unusual shape, I especially like creating cards that just don't look like cards!  This one comes with its own easel stand (that I designed on my Silhouette Cameo).  I was tickled recently when I read a post from another stamper who said she sends an easel with all of her cards as she considers each to be a work of art. The idea was conceived from a card I Pinned by 01Tink  - while I LOVED her idea as a Sympathy card, I knew it would work for some holidays as well.  The idea became a reality after a recent trip to my fave stamp store Impressive Ideas, in Roswell, GA - it is where I purchased the Authentique paper that I used in this and another project I'll post below.  This won't quite fit in a conventional envelope so I made a box to send it in. I rolled the sides of each page on the rounded edge of my counter top and used some Collal glue (a silicone based glue, also purchased at Impressive Ideas) to keep the pages opened.

     My next project was made with purchases from Impressive Ideas as well, and inspired by the coffin they had created and had on display.  I purchased the wood coffin that measures approximately 6 x 3 inches.  I painted them black and then (with the use of my Silhouette) cut various papers from Graphics 45 and Authentique to decorate them.  I can't tell you the fun I had at Michael's picking up some goodies like the spiders for the inside.

    This is the outside back of one, and front of another.  Honest to goodness they are soooo cute and were such fun to make.

     I cut out some of the cute little witches, the moon and the clock from the Graphics 45 paper (I think some of this has been discontinued).  The bat background is from the Authentique pad I purchased.  The sides of the coffins are covered as well - just a blast to put together, can't wait to put them in the mail.

A Savior is Born.....

    Once again I will say I just love my Silhouette Cameo.  This sweet and lovely poinsettia was cut on it from a Lori Whitlock cut file.  It is framed beautifully with a little extra greenery from my Cheery Lynn die as well.

     If you saw my previous post you may have read that it was a busy day in my Stamp castle recently.  I can be forgiven for thinking it is Christmas since I work in the retail world and as we ramp up for the holiday it sometimes feels like its already here.  I used my Spellbinders Radiant Rectangle die to create this in the same manner I created the one for the Halloween post earlier. The pages have Collal Silicone glue between them to keep them raised. The great thing about the poinsettia is I can make it ANY size I want using my Silhouette Cameo.  This whole card is no larger than 6.25 x 4.25 and has an easel stand I made with my own design on my Silhouette.  

    After making one in blue I just knew I would want one in red as well.  On this particular one I used my fave Krylon Gold Leaf pen around the edges of the outside of the red back.  Every time I look at these I make myself crazy - I think, "Oh I love the blue" - then I think, "Oh I love the red" - then I think "No I love the blue".  I swear each one is my favorite.  These to had to have boxes made to transport them in....still decorating those.  

     I have some more ready to assemble as I post this - think this will be a special Christmas card for some people close to me.  Not saying who, you know if you've been naughty or nice - just saying!!

Hush little baby don't you cry.....

     You have no idea IRL how adorable this little fella looks.  When I discovered that Bambino from Sugar Nellie was available as a digital, I swear I swooned!!  This is an image I have coveted for sometime, to be able to own it as a digi - well I could hardly contain my excitement.
    Upon discovering this image I immediately purchased and downloaded it - before printing I adjusted my print settings to print in a light grey ink.  When coloring an image like this, one would like to take credit for the beauty of it, but the image is so wonderfully drawn that, using my Copics, it took very little talent on my part to bring him to life.
    I must confess that the background was made using my Silhouette Cameo with a pattern from Lori Whitlock, and was sitting on my desk from a few weeks ago (since it was blue that is what determined this little cutie would be a boy).  The card was originally going to be used for a birthday card that I later decided I wanted bigger - so I resized the pattern on the Cameo and made another step card to use.  I sat this on the shelf waiting for future use.  Waste not, want not.
     Honestly, I am so crazy about this image I had trouble even wanting to put anything around him.  Digging into my stash of embellishments I came across these sweet little buttons that have been waiting a LONG time to be used, then I settled on a small sentiment from an old Fiskars Baby set.
     This card will be thrown into the challenge at Use It Tuesday where they challenge you to use what you have.  I also meet the challenge at Creative Inspirations for their Bingo call using Ribbon, Sentiment, and Buttons from the first row of their challenge - used them all in a row on my card as well :)
     Now I hope someone has a little boy soon so I can put him in the mail!!

With Sympathy

     Yes, I needed a Sympathy card for a co-worker.  Her father passed away very unexpectedly the other night.  It was with sadness that I sat to create this for her.  While looking for inspiration I found several card styles that appealed to me.....most cards of this nature seemed to be fairly simple.  There was one card I came across that had used the Lords Prayer in the background - then I looked through some of my old creations and some ideas began to form.  Like most cards, this ended up a little different from how it was intended to look, and that is a good thing - I liked my original ideas, but this turned out even better.
    Not owning a stamp with the words to the prayer I computer generated them, repeating them about nine or ten times.  After choosing a paper color I then coordinated the color of the ink for the words to the paper. Once they printed out I used my circle Spellbinder die to cut out the image and a background layer.  Then I inked up my Penny Black floral stamp with some Brilliance Pearlescent Jade and stamped it over the words of the prayer, Cutting off a small side of the circles I placed them on my card and created a floral design on the opposite side to balance the card with some Prima flowers, and foliage with my Martha Stewart punch, and Cheery Lynn die.  To finish this off I used some ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon and a metal die Cross from Momenta.

  The card dimensions are 5.5 by 5.5 and with the flowers would not fit into a normal envelope, so I made a small box to place it in.  There is a belly band with a fancy punched edge, with another Martha Stewart Punch, and matching ribbon from the card to go around the box, topped with a frame stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs with their matching die.  (Need to place her name on this)
     It is a very peaceful looking card - inside I computer generated the sentiment: Although its difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.  You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Fishy Birthday

     Yep, I have had a few days off - that means play time!!!  Of course my stamp room is a mess, so my first thoughts this morning were 'clean it up before you play'.  Normally that would mean put the Copics away, refile all the dies you have laying around, give myself some workable space......but I have several projects in the 'half finished' mode laying around, so today I decided 'cleaning up meant 'finish those cards'!
     Since before Christmas (yes, that long) I have had a piece of acetate sitting that I ran through my Cuttlebug to use as an overlay.....for whatever reason after I ran it through it ended up in a corner of my desk.  Then about two weeks ago I saw it and began to think of using it - I actually dug some old paper out from a scrapbook set a friend gave me.  Once again the card got laid to the side.  No more, today I finished it.  It is going to go into my Birthday stash, I'm thinking this will work for a guy, with a sentiment on the inside and a few waves and fish to finish it off.
     It was great fun putting this together - like like the look of the embossed acetate and will certainly be doing more of this in the future.

Love & Happiness.....

     I saw this layout and design posted on Pinterest by Jo Ham of Its My Creative World.  Can I just say she is one creative lady.  You may have noticed from several of my posts recently I have been making wedding cards for some friends.  It was while wandering through Pinterest one evening that I came across this beauty.  I CASED her work, changing the coloring some, I also changed  the sentiment and die it was printed on, and instead of  using a flower I chose some different embellies.   Jo designed this half round step card for use with a Silhouette, I just had to download it and try it on mine -- I love step cards and just couldn't pass up this great shape.
     There is a learning curve on the Silhouette and on this card I learned several lessons I thought I would share.  First, Jo said in her blog that after cutting and folding you would have to cut the excess outside edge, no problem.  My little experience with Silhouette has taught me that the dashed lines for folding can get a little worn and sometimes tear easily if you are too rough - it took me two tries on this card to get it the way I wanted it.  What I learned was that right after cutting those excess edges, take the time to then adhere the background while it is laying flat.  Playing around too much with my first one caused some stress on the fold lines. I also discovered that the pieces she included in the cut file for the background weren't really to size - while they fit the main circle, the edges of those change after you hand cut it......I am going to play around and see if I can change her pattern and save it.
     The image is from Mo's Digital Pencil -- ya'll know how much I love Mo's designs).  The lovely couple was colored with my Copic Sketch Markers....I also used my Gelly Roll Clear Star pen to give some sparkle to her gown.  I ran my Cheery Lynn small flourish die through my Cuttlebug about 4 or 5 times to create the embellishment behind the couple, the white background was also run through the Cuttlebug with a Valentines embossing folder. After generating my sentiment on the computer I lined up my Opulent Oval die over it and cut it out adding a darling little Dove from Jolees.
     Know that I fell in love with this card and was obsessed all day putting it together.  Using my Silhouette is still very new to me - it can do so much and I know so little.  If it weren't for great tutorials by ladies like Jo, and others I have pinned, I would be at a loss - they inspire me to practice, practice, practice using this fine machine as a tool in my paper crafting world.

Spring into summer

     I was working on this image before vacation, and feel like I need her finished up with Summer around the corner.  This image so reminds me of my bestie Vicki.  We are complete opposites and often laugh about it.  I am an early riser, she hates mornings - I am ultra conservative, she likes to pretend she can be, but is much more liberal than I am - she loves to relax in her garden, I do not have a green thumb and look for reasons not to grow things.  When I saw this image at Mo's Digital Pencil I just had to click 'buy' and add her to my collection.

      For my inspiration today I used the Sketch Challenge 439 over at SCS shown above.  I turned my card sideways and changed the shapes up a little.  There are days that challenges like this can be great inspiration when your trying to finish projects up.  The original design was somewhat similar, but I am glad I let the sketch inspire me.

Ruh Roh ......

     Ruh Roh - Rocco is in the doghouse.  I am catching up with cards I need to make, while I was on vacation I missed a few birthdays.  Like "Rocco" I think I need to be in the doghouse for not being better organized.  I couldn't wait to color up this sweet little fella from Mo's Digital Pencil.....the fun was in deciding what markings to give him since this particular digi is mostly an outline, I love that belly I gave him, and who doesn't  love that 'oops - I think I'm in trouble' look he is sporting!   I found the tennis shoes in my clip art file and printed them up and fussy cut them out - Rocco is responsible for the piece missing from one of them, you can tell from the guilty look on his face as well as the tenny hanging from his mouth, tee hee.  For the front sentiment I dug out my Sizzix "Wingo Zingo' Alphabet - while I have owned it for quite some time - this is the first I have used it....it wasn't as dusty as I thought it would be :-)

     The sentiment on the inside says "I'm in the doghouse for missing your Birthday, Hope it was a good one"    What fun it is coloring Mo's images - next goal is to learn to merge some of her images together and layer them.  Need to get Photoshop and practice.....I have a few in my Mo's file that would look great together.

Wedding Bells.....

        A co-worker requested a wedding card recently and when I think of wedding cards I always think white on white, flowers, pearls, and possibly butterflies.  So to make this little beauty I dug out my floral oval die from Spellbinders (a go to die on a pretty regular basis for me).  During a trip down the paper aisle at Jo-Ann Fabrics recently I found this lovely Ivory Floral on White Matte paper, it seemed perfect for a wedding or anniversary card.  After cutting my two Floral Ovals, I cut a regular Oval from some Pearl Vellum paper.  Once they were layered I generated my sentiment on the computer and then used Label 18 to cut around it, which I also backed with some Pearl Vellum paper that I fussy cut around to mimic the die shape.  The basic layout of the dies was inspired by a card I saw here by Sistersandie at Splitcoast Stampers.  I generated my own sentiment so I could match the fonts to the scripture I am putting on the inside.  Her easel card was very inspiring and beautiful.

Still Waters

     Got my new stamps from Our Daily Bread Designs - This scene so appealed to me when it was released.    I am always looking for stamps that can be used for masculine cards and that go well with scripture, this fit the bill for me.
     This week I decided to join in on the Sketch Challenge at Splitcoaststampers and it seemed the perfect challenge to use my new stamp with, and will also work with the challenge over at Our Daily Bread Designs this week for wood or stone.  I stamped the background for the look of wood, then I stamped and embossed my image on a rectangular piece of kraft card stock.  It is embossed because I then took some bleach and washed it over the water to add a little different tone to the monochromatic look.  Both of the rectangles were mounted on black card stock and laid out per the sketch.  A little twine with an anchor to finish it off - I couldn't find the compass charm I KNOW I have, arghhh, need to do some cleaning in this room!!!  All in all a nice looking card to add to my stash, one that will not be there long before it is sent out.

Retro Fun

     The Featured Stamper at Splitcoaststampers this week is Silli - you can visit her gallery here.  She had posted a darling retro image on a card, that I first took note of several weeks ago. I have a few retro digis that I have been wanting to use and when I went through her gallery again today I thought what better card to CASE than hers to honor her as Featured Stamper. When I first purchased the patterned paper you see here I knew it was meant to have a retro image on it - how could it not - its called Happy Days!!  I used my Copics to give some color to the image, generated a saying for the front, and fussy cut around the cans from another sheet in the set.  I will be using this as a Birthday Card once I generate an appropriate saying for the inside.
     These retro images really are catchy - guess I'm getting old, this could be my mom in the kitchen when I was younger - I have a few more that are just as sweet and hope to get them on paper soon. Ya'll have a great day!!

Balance is.......

     My original plan when I bought this Art Impression stamp was to mount her on an Action Wobble. I got her all colored up, fussy cut all around her, laid out my design, and don't you know the wobble was too big to center her body on.  Darn!!!  So on to plan two and placing her on some pop ups.  You have to admit she is awfully agile and balanced, chocolate in both hands will do that for you!!
     This is a center step card.  On each side of the sentiment I have placed little plastic stickers of chocolate candies - these are from the card my daughter gave me for Valentines day.  It came with a big sticker sheet full of these that were to be placed in various places on her card, there were a lot left and I thought I would put them to good use.
      I just get tickled each time I look at this 'oh so' serious looking lady - this is actually a stretch I do most mornings before I get on the treadmill, but I have to admit I don't own a pair of leotards that look like these.....I'm thinking that's a good thing.  I also have to confess that I LOVE chocolate.....I put a few miles a day on the treadmill so I can let that decadent delight touch my lips and roll around on my tongue daily and it is worth each and every step/jog I take.....Whew, feels good confessing this. Gonna post this over on Jammer Town at Splitcoaststampers......those girls know that chocolate is one of the four food groups for stampers!!

Lifes a beach....

     Its been the kind of spring that makes one want to get to the beach and feel the sunshine!  While it has been fairly mild in Georgia, my poor family and friends in the mid-west have been bemoaning the late snow and cold weather.  St. Louis recently broke a 100 year record for 12 plus inches of snow....I am sooo not missing living there and experiencing that.
     However, what really inspired me to make this card was the Design Team call over at Mo's Digital Pencil.  The minute I saw it was open my heart started to pound quicker, and I let out a hopeful SQUEAL!!!!  You are suppose to post something with your favorite Mo's image - LOL - I love them all, how could you possibly pick just one.  This said, if I think too hard about it I'll never get an image colored - they are all too, too sweet and fun.  So.....since I HAD to pick - I chose this lovely curvy lady with the delish umbrella drink.  We will be heading to the beach in a few months so I have visions like this dancing around in my head.  Yes, she is in a a "teeny, weeny, itsy, bitsy, yellow polka dot bikini" (hope your humming along now) with the tropics surrounding her.  There are harder images to color, but she is oh so fun to play with!!!  Of course I used my Copics to color her, my Spellbinders to frame her, a nicely discounted Paper Studio embellishment, and some ribbon, all mounted on some fun two sided Jillibean Coordinating paper. I like the way the chevron on the lower layer mimics the ripples in the sand as the ocean washes up on the beach.

     Yep, this will be me when we finally make it to the sand and sunshine.....an umbrella drink is a must!  I finished of the inside off the card as well - I used two shells that I stamped, colored lightly, spritzed, then bent into a shell like shape.  They are adhered with some Collall glue to give them dimension.  My original thought was to use them on the outside of the card, but this little lady screamed for a palm tree and coconuts.

     I had to laugh when I read the Design Team call requirements....does Mo really think it is a burden to have to color and play with one of her images weekly, or any time for that matter  - I say bring it on  - that is my kind of play.

Tweet, tweet, tweet...

     Playing around with some background paper from an old hymnal and made this little card.  Please don't start thinking of me as the 'crazy bird' lady since this is my second bird post in a row - as they couldn't be more different.  This little chickadee is by Our Daily Bread Designs, and cut out using their matching die as well.  He is sitting on a hymn titled "Let Him In" and is colored with my Copics, then mounted on two circles cut with my Spellbinders circle dies.  The background is some kraft paper run through a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder finished off with some ribbon and a little red embellishment.  I will be placing this in the challenge over at Our Daily Bread Designs since I used one of their stamps you can see details here if you wish to join in.

Time Began in a Garden

  Made this card for the Teapot Tuesday challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers.  This weeks card will be mailed to a gentleman who is ill and in need of some cheering up.  He has a love for the Lord and enjoys gardening.  This basket of goodies and sentiment from Serendipidity Stamps seemed to be tailor made for him.
     I used my Spellbinders Deckled Edge Rectangle for the image, and my Grommet Tag die for the sentiment.  The gloves were fussy cut and have a dimensional behind them.  The image was colored with my Copics and I tried my best to keep it gritty and earthy looking.
     Its always a pleasure when I can find time to make a card for the Teapot Challenges....most weeks the challenge has a theme as well as a destination for the card made - its nice to send an RAK in the form of something I enjoy doing.

     During Lent a group of musicians and worship leaders from all across the South have posted a daily devotional on You-Tube - I have been following along daily.  They have actually been using material and readings from the Book of Common Prayer - which has been interesting as some have never used this book before and their insights into the scripture has been a breath of fresh air.  Just a click of my mouse and I can have as much time to mediate and pray during the devo as I need.  How exciting this week is as we travel through Holy Week into Easter......As I have said before, this season begins much earlier for me, at Christmastime.....you can't have the cross without the creche.  I am humbled by the sacrifice Jesus made on my behalf. It is with joy that I look forward to celebrating His resurrection this Sunday.

     I have had a great time making some explosion boxes for Easter and today I worked on a 'pop-up' card. Once again I went to my 'go to' stamp from Flourishes....this is the perfect size cross, and the Easter Lilies that adorn it are just beautiful.  I stamped, colored and then cut the cross out....I also stamped a second cross that I then cut the center Lily from and colored.  Using some scrapbook adhesives I popped this up on the cross.

     Using my circle dies (offset) I cut a piece of silver to place behind my image.  With my Cheery Lynn dies I cut some greenery to place around my cross.  An Easter sentiment was placed inside of my Elegant Oval Frames from Our Daily Bread Designs and cut with their matching Spellbinders die.  A little bling, because this is a festive and awesome day I am celebrating, and the inside of the card is complete.
     For the outside I used a larger Elegant Oval Frame from Our Daily Bread Designs with a sentiment from their 'He Will Rise' set.  I cut out and colored a lily for the corner of the die.  Keeping the cross in mind I ran the  front panel of my card through my Grand Calibur with their M-Bossabilities wood die.
     Time to be getting some of these in the mail - Easter will be here before I know it.
